Muscle Energy Technique is an osteopathic technique which focuses on rebalancing joint alignment. This technique may be a good alternative for individuals who don’t use chiropractic therapy.

This form of therapy is used to reposition a dysfunctional joint, address low back pain, pelvic imbalances, headaches and more.

How does this technique work?
There are specialized nerves in the tendons and in the muscles which detect changes in the amount of stretch placed upon the muscle-tendon unit. This response is used in this technique to facilitate a relaxation of the muscle groups being treated thereby facilitating a rebalancing of the joint.

What you can expect as a client?
You will be fully clothed during your treatment session. The practitioner will first determine which muscle groups and joints require muscle energy therapy. You may then be asked to sit or lie on the treatment table to begin the session. The therapist will then move your body into the required position for the release to occur. You will also be asked to contract target muscle groups to get maximum benefit out of the technique.
