Massage Therapy , Therapeutic Massage or Medical Massage has found its place in rehabilitative health care. Therapeutic Massage is a logical choice for soft tissue injuries such as strains, sprains, whiplash, low back pain, tendinitis, postural conditions and post surgical situations. This hands on therapy also holds its own from an illness prevention perspective. The World Health Organization has determined that the most prevelant cause of death in the developed countries world wide is lifestyle. A primary cause/contributor of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, hypertension etc. is “stress”. This form of therapy has been researched and shown to reduce the stress hormone ‘cortisol’ which is implicated in many lifestyle diseases, sleep cycles, weight management, hormone regulation and more.

Massage Therapy is ideally suited in managing the pain associated with chronic soft tissue and joint conditions such as fibromyalgia and osteoarthritis. Therapeutic Massage can be effective in the treatment of mild depression and can assist in normalizing sleep patterns. Regulation of the autonomic nervous system is also an indirect benefit of regular massage therapy.

What can you expect as a client?
Your Registered Massage Therapist will go over your health history with you to determine that massage therapy is the best fit for your complaint. Together you will discuss the treatment approach to be taken and what you might expect within the treatment session. You will then be given privacy to disrobe and lie on the treatment table covered with a sheet and blanket. The therapist having discussed with you the treatment for the day and receiving your consent, will apply a lotion to the area to be treated and use soft tissue techniques to address your complaint. Massage therapists are constantly adding to their skill set to offer you the best care.

Massage Therapy is covered under many extended health benefits plans.
